Jim Petrecca, Bass Instructor

Jim Petrecca has been playing the double bass since the age of twelve. A graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Jim has worked professionally as a musician since 1981. While in Boston, Petrecca performed with the Boston Pops, Opera Company of Boston and the Harvard Chamber Orchestra. He has also performed with numerous festivals including the Aspen Music Festival in Colorado and the New College Musical Festival in Sarasota.


Petrecca began instructing double bass during his tenure with Greater Boston Youth Orchestra from 1983 to 1991. He is a member of the Florida Orchestra Bass section and works as a string clinician in both Hillsborough and Pasco County Schools.


Petrecca’s principal instructors include Edwin Barker, principal bass of the Boston Symphony and Paul Ellison, principal bass of the Houston Symphony and string chair at Rice University.
