Tap keeps your feet moving, your heart pounding and your spirits soaring! Join tap instructor Susan Downey for a fun and FREE lunchtime introductory class in tap dancing and learn some basic steps — shuffles, flaps and ball changes — then combine these into an easy dance combination. No dance experience or tap shoes are required for participation. Wear comfortable clothing and sneakers or leather-soled shoes. Get healthy, get tapping! Space is limited. Susan Downey brings a wealth of experience to the Patel Conservatory, having studied tap with Savion Glover, Germaine Salaberg, Michelle Dorrance, Shea Sullivan and Barbara Duffy as well as So You Think You Can Dance choreographers Brian Freedman, Mia Michaels, Wade Robinson and Shane Sparks. Before coming to the Tampa area, Downey was the director and lead dance teacher for the United States Military Academy at West Point’s Child and Youth Services program and was also Head Tap Teacher for 12 years at Step by Step dance studio in New York State. She has a BFA in Musical Theater from United States International University and is a certified fitness instructor. Downey also teaches pre-ballet, musical theater and jazz dance at the Patel Conservatory.
