Patel Conservatory Youth Theater Company, Grades 6-12

The Patel Conservatory Youth Theater Company is designed to give current Conservatory students the opportunity to put the experience they have gained at The Conservatory into practice. In this performance lab, students have a chance to work in a rehearsal environment that is both demanding and nurturing. The lab culminates in a final performance piece that incorporates acting, dancing and singing. To ensure artistic advancement in the process, there is a pre- or co-requisite class required for participation. These classes meet the pre- or co-requisite class requirement for participation.

For the spring production, the Patel Conservatory Youth Theater Company presents Pirates of Penzance, Jr.

ALL CAST MEMBERS MUST BE IN ATTENDANCE AT THESE REHEARSALS & PERFORMANCES.

These dates are in addition to the 12-week session of classes, when you are expected to attend every Wednesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and every Saturday from 4-6 p.m.  Please keep in mind that our attendance policy states that if you miss more than 2 classes, you could lose the privilege of performing with the rest of the cast.  Your child may also be asked occasionally to attend extra rehearsals.  These extra rehearsals will be coordinated on an as-needed basis.

Synopsis

Wacky, irreverent and as entertaining today as it was when it first opened in 1879, The Pirates of Penzance spins an hilarious farce of sentimental pirates, bumbling policemen, dim-witted young lovers, dewy-eyed daughters and an eccentric Major-General, all morally bound to the often-ridiculous dictates of honor and duty.

Parent Volunteer Commitment
Parental participation is critical to the success of teaching the importance of the collaborative effort of theater.  Below is a list of opportunities that we are sure can accommodate the busiest of schedules.  We ask that parents sign up in advance (prior to or at the mandatory parent and student meeting) for their volunteer commitments.

Costumes- we need someone to help coordinate the collection of costume items and possibly some sewing.

Set Construction/ Scenic Painting - We need several people to help with the construction and scenic painting. These will be evening and weekend calls during rehearsals and additional calls during the week of spring break.  Participants should be comfortable using power tools or handy with a paint brush.  Those who sign up will be contacted by our production department to get your availability.

Snack Providers/Servers- we’ll need someone to provide snacks and assistance setting up, serving snack and clean-up for the Cast Party on April 26th.  Light finger food, not to include chocolate, dairy or peanut products, may be served.

Back Stage Assistance- we are going to need some parents to move scenery, assist on quick costume changes, crowd control and dressing room/backstage monitoring, etc. on the day of the performances. We need assistance for each of the performances.  We require that you sign up for at least 2 performances to work and at least 2 dress rehearsals to train.

Daily Rehearsal Assistance- We need daily assistance during our 1st 12 weeks of rehearsal.  These persons will assist with crowd control, bathroom breaks, escorting students and administrative duties.  We are looking for someone who can commit to at least one rehearsal day for most of the 12 weeks of the rehearsal process, if not all of the 12 weeks.

Strike- we need as many volunteers as possible to help take down the set, sort costumes and props, clean dressing rooms and restore the space when the show is done.  This will take place directly following the final performance.  Those who own cordless screw guns are encouraged to bring them.
