PCYO Audition Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What should I bring to my audition?
A. $15 registration/Audition fee in cash, check, or credit cards are accepted. (Checks made out to PCYO). Bring your instrument, music, a pen and contact info for your parents, phone and addresses of your school & private teacher.
Q. What should I wear?
A. Students should wear clothing they would wear to a recital. For gentlemen a ress shirt with a tie, slacks and dress shoes. Ladies should wear a dress, pantsuit, or skirt and blouse. Dress to impress, not to distract. A tuxedo would be too formal. Shorts, a t-shirt and sandals would be too casual.
Q. Can I use an accompanist?
A. No, all auditions will be without piano accompaniment.
Q. I can’t find the audition excerpts for Youth Symphony and Junior Philharmonic for my instrument!
A. Audition requirements and excerpts are posted here: http://www.patelconservatory.org/disciplines/pcyo_auditionrequirements.htm
Q. I’m not sure if my solo is the right level!
A. Prepare a piece you are comfortable playing. The levels are a guide to help students and teachers better understand the level the conductors are looking for. A lower level piece played well is better than a higher level piece poorly prepared. Remember, it’s not what you play; it’s how well you play it.
Q. Where do I go for my audition?
A. Auditions will be held in the Patel Conservatory at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts. Please enter through the TECO Theater lobby located across from the Howard Johnson Hotel near the river. Directions and parking information can be found at www.tbpac.org or by calling 222-1001, and pressing “3”.
Q Does everyone have to audition?
A. Yes, everyone must audition. Even if you want to stay in the orchestra you were in this past year. Current PCYO members who do not audition in the summer, will not be permitted to audition later.
Q. Who will be hearing my Audition?
A. All students will be heard by at least two conductors from the PCYO conducting staff.
Q. Can friends or family members listen to my audition?
A. No, auditions are closed. Only the student auditioning and PCYO conductors will be present during the auditions.
Q. When will I know the result of my Audition?
A. Results will be posted on the PCYO web for students auditioning in the Summer. http://www.patelconservatory.org/disciplines/pcyo_roster.htm
Those auditioning in January for the Spring will be told their placement after they audition.
Q. Can I call the PCYO office for Audition results or ask a PCYO staff member when I see them in the grocery store?
A. No, you must wait until the results are posted on the web site. An email will be sent informing those who auditioned of it’s post.
Q. I was not selected for the orchestra I wanted. Can I make an appeal?
A. No, the conductor’s decisions are final.
Q. When can I audition again?
A. You may audition again in May 2010. |
