Orlando Ballet School at the Patel Conservatory
2007-2008 Levels and Placement

Orlando Ballet School (OBS) at the Patel Conservatory offers classes for students in grades Pre-K3 through 12. Beginning and intermediate ballet classes for Grades 9-Adult are also taught by OBS faculty members through the Patel Conservatory.

The classes for children are broadly divided into two divisions, the Enrollment Division for grades Pre-K3-2, and the Pre-Professional Division for Grades 2-12. Each division has a sequence of levels that are carefully designed to meet the developmental and technical needs of students as they train to be classical ballet dancers.

Level Placement

No previous training is required for students wishing to enter the Enrollment Division or the Pre-Professional Division. However, all students must take a placement class to determine their level of proficiency prior to registration. Placement is based on the student’s ability to perform a specified set of skills. Although the student’s age is considered during the placement process, the grades attached to a particular level are approximate. Most new students enter the Pre-Professional Division in the Preparatory level, as prior serious ballet training is required to be placed in Levels 1-5. Placement classes, free Intro to Ballet classes for grades Pre-K3-1, and master classes for grades 2-12 are offered throughout the year. Placement classes can also be scheduled on an individual basis. Contact OBS at the Patel Conservatory at 813.222.1263 for further information. The Orlando Ballet School staff will make all decisions regarding placements and promotions to the next level.

Enrollment Division

Students in grades Pre-K3-2 begin their ballet training in the Enrollment Division, which includes Dress Up and Dance, Creative Movement 1, Creative Movement 2 and Primary. These classes introduce structured movement and basic stance, preparing students for the demands of serious ballet study.

Tuition

Tuition is based on the OBS at the Patel Conservatory academic calendar and divided into nine equal payments. Tuition covers fees associated with classes and recitals. Required recital costumes must be purchased separately for all classes. Tuition rates have been developed with the understanding that some months offer fewer classes due to holiday breaks or to the students’ participation in productions. Monthly installments are paid in advance. Payments after the tenth of the month will be considered late and a $15 late fee will be added.

For tuition rates, please follow the link to the Patel Conservatory Class Schedule and select the appropriate level. A discount is available when paying for the entire year in advance. Additional registration fees and recital costume fees also apply. Please contact OBS at the Patel Conservatory at 813.222.1263 for further information.

Dress Code

Orlando Ballet School requires all registered students to observe the dress code for their level. Students should not purchase dance attire until after receiving placement in a particular level. The dress code for each of the Enrollment Division levels is listed below. These items are available in the Conservatory Retail Store. Contact the Store at 813.222.1029 for information about how to purchase the OBS dress code items. In addition to the dress code, students must observe regulations with regard to hair, jewelry, warm-up clothing, etc. For specific information, please consult the OBS Student Handbook or contact OBS at the Patel Conservatory at 813.222.1263.
