Orlando Ballet School and Patel Conservatory Youth Ballet (PCYB) History
Orlando Ballet School (OBS) is the official school of Orlando Ballet, central Florida’s only fully professional resident ballet company. The school began as an outgrowth of the company and was officially established in Orlando in 1982. Headed by former New York City Ballet dancer Peter Stark, the school offers American training incorporating precise footwork, classical port de bras and preparation for today’s classical ballet companies. Since its inception, the school’s graduates have danced with major professional dance companies, including American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet, Hamburg Ballet, National Ballet of Spain, Houston Ballet, Paul Taylor Dance Company and Orlando Ballet.

Orlando Ballet School aims to be one of the best classical dance academies in America. Students are trained by the highest caliber staff and performances seek to educate and uplift both the dancers and the audiences.

The Patel Conservatory partnered with OBS in 2006, establishing the only ballet program in Tampa affiliated with a professional ballet company. The Patel Conservatory Youth Ballet (PCYB) with OBS offers classes for children in grades Pre-K3 through 12. (Beginning and intermediate ballet classes for Grade 9-Adult are also offered through the enrichment track in the Patel Conservatory.) PCYB follows a strict syllabus and program of study. The classes are broadly divided into two divisions: the Enrollment Division for grades Pre-K3 through 2 and the Pre-Professional Division for grades 2-12. Each division has a sequence of levels carefully designed to meet the developmental and technical needs of students as they train to be serious ballet dancers. PCYB accepts students of all levels, so no previous training is required. However, all students must first take a placement class to determine their level of proficiency prior to registration. Contact the PCYB office at 813.222.1263 for more information.
