Field Trips, Tours and Study Guides

Field Trips
The foundation of the Straz Center’s educational programming is the Field Trip series. Each year students from public, private and home schools come to the Straz Center during the school day to enjoy high quality, age-appropriate productions. For a complete schedule of upcoming field trips, go here.

The Straz Center recognizes the challenges that FCAT poses to teachers in the State of Florida, and understands teachers’ reluctance to take students away from the classroom environment to attend performances during the school day. To enhance the educational connection between our shows and your curriculum, each Field Trip presentation is coded with the applicable Sunshine State Standards that the show and its corresponding study guide helps to meet. Click here to plan your Field Trip.

Tours
On Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10 a.m., guided tours are available for the public and they begin outside the Straz Center's Ticket Office. For groups of 10 or more call 813.222.1065. This 90-minute tour of the Straz Center takes you through both the public and backstage spaces of the largest Performing Arts Center in the southeast. During the tour, your guide will provide information about the construction of the facility, discuss many of the architectural and theatrical points of interest, and share colorful anecdotes about some of the many entertainers that have performed on our five stages. Available upon request, there is also A Day at the Straz Center tour for students and educators. Click here for more information.

Enrichment Study Guides
The Straz Center and the Patel Conservatory strive to enhance the performance experience for all students, general patrons and life-long learners by providing educational study guides. These study guides are prepared by educators, specialists and performing companies to provide in-depth background material on select field trip performances, Broadway shows and Straz Center productions. Like most study guides, they are designed to integrate into the existing curriculum and enhance critical thinking and the application of life skills by providing educators with comprehensive resource materials. Study guides are free of charge and can be downloaded here.
