Hollis Hammonds, Violin Instructor
Hollis Hammonds received her Master of Music in Violin Performance and Pedagogy from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University as a student of Herbert Greenberg. She studied pedagogy with Rebecca Henry at the Peabody Institute's Preparatory Division. Hammonds graduated summa cum laude from Converse College with a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance where she studied with Sarah Johnson and was named the school's Presser Scholar. Awards and honors include the Melissa Tiller Memorial Prize in String Performance and the Pi Kappa Lambda Award.
Hammonds is a registered Suzuki instructor having studied with Edmund Sprunger, Linda Stieg, and Sharon Miller. She is also certified in the Mark O’Connor violin method. She has taught at the Alia-Lawson Pre-College in South Carolina, the Peabody Preparatory in Maryland, the Baltimore School for the Arts and the Greater Baltimore Youth Orchestra as well as maintaining a private studio.
Hammonds has performed as a chamber musician and soloist in many locations across Europe and the U.S., and on Baroque violin with various early music ensembles in the Baltimore area. She also enjoys composing and performing alternative music styles with traditional and electric violin, and piano. She and her husband now live in Tampa, Fla.
